Take Your Time by Sam Hunt

Take Your Time by Sam Hunt

October 2014 and one of my friends, “KME” had just visited me here in Maine. She lived in South Florida.

By the time she left, after a weekend of outdoor adventures, dancing and meeting new people, I decided I was ready to start dating again.

Sometimes our ruts become so comfy we forget they’re ruts. We finally get to the point that we are ready to dig ourselves out of that comfy pit.

The minute my friend flew back to South Florida, right after the nudge to get out there and meet people, I signed up for Match.com.

I admit I enjoyed the attention and interaction with quite a few men. None of them materialized into more than a meet and greet (my rule for first time meetings), which consists of meeting in public place, preferably during morning or daytime hours, having coffee and talking. One hour is more than sufficient for a meet and greet.

One of the guys I met, “SN” was clearly going to be a friend. I broke my rules with him. Met him at a steakhouse for a first date dinner. After dinner we went out to OOB and watched a very cool local band from New Hampshire, Red Sky Mary. We had a great time but realized music was our only connection. We we’re going to be friends but not friend with benefits. It was mutual.

We both loved the same music and could talk for hours. Most women would think that means a love connection. It doesn’t mean the same for me and both of us were on the same page.

A couple of months after the beginning of our friendship he called to tell me there was a guy at work he thought I’d like. His name was “CC”. Numbers were exchanged, this guy texted and called. He sure was direct! Good thing that is my favorite type of person. We didn’t play the text forever game or spend hours on the phone. We met almost immediately. He was bossy and very “man in charge” but I set up some ground rules.

When he realized why I was putting that wall of defense up so quickly, he sent me this song.

Perfect song with perfect timing.

That was the longest successful relationship I’ve ever had and it lasted maybe 4-5 months. It was my last relationship up to this point.

This is the song and the reason it worked is because it was a man telling the truth instead of blowing smoke up…..

Maybe others won’t see this as romantic but it’s how I roll.

Enjoy!

TAKE YOUR TIME

[Verse 1]
I don’t know if you were looking at me or not
You probably smile like that all the time
And I don’t mean to bother you but
I couldn’t just walk by
And not say hi
And I know your name
Cause everybody in here knows your name
And you’re not looking for anything right now
So I don’t wanna come on strong
Don’t get me wrong
Your eyes are so intimidating
My heart is pounding but
It’s just a conversation
No girl I’m not wasted
You don’t know me
I don’t know you but I want to

[Chorus]
I don’t wanna steal your freedom
I don’t wanna change your mind
I don’t have to make you love me
I just want to take your time
I don’t wanna wreck your Friday
I ain’t gonna waste my lines
I don’t have to take your heart
I just wanna take your time

And I know it starts with hello
And the next thing you know you’re try to be nice
And some guys getting too close
Trying to pick you up
Trying to get you drunk
And I’m sure one of your friends is about to come over here
Cause she’s supposed to save you from random guys
That talk too much and wanna stay too long
It’s the same old song and dance but I think you know it well
You could’ve rolled your eyes
Told me to go to hell
Could’ve walked away
But you’re still here
And I’m still here
Come on let’s see where it goes
[Chorus 2]
I don’t wanna steal your freedom
I don’t wanna change your mind
I don’t have to make you love me
I just wanna take your time
I don’t have to meet your mother
We don’t have to cross that line
I don’t wanna steal your covers
I just wanna take your time
[Bridge]
I don’t wanna go home with you
I just wanna be alone with you
[Chorus 3]
I don’t wanna steal your freedom
I don’t wanna change your mind
I don’t have to make you love me
I just wanna take your time
I don’t wanna blow your phone up
I just wanna blow your mind
I don’t have to take your heart
I just wanna take your time
No, I ain’t gotta call you baby
And I ain’t gotta call you mine
I don’t have to take your heart
I just wanna take your time
