Be Good To Yourself

November 21st of 1986 in Jacksonville, Florida, I attended my very first rock concert. My boyfriend’s birthday was the 17th so I bought him 2 tickets. That is what you call a win-win.

We drove there in his dad’s 72′ Ford Maverick and we sat beside someone smoking a joint. I didn’t care because I was about to see Steve Perry.

The opening band was Glass Tiger whose hit was, Don’t Forget Me When I’m gone.

My then boyfriend, future ex-husband, was amazed that I knew every single song that would be next by the first word or two of the song introduction. Also surprising was the fact that I knew the lyrics to all the songs.

I was raised in a very strict household where we were not allowed to listen to rock music. This was one of my favorite experiences in my early adulthood and I’m probably an even bigger fan of Steve Perry/Journey than I was back then.

Who can argue that he is one of the best rock music vocalist of all time? Enjoy!

[Verse 1]
Running out of self-control
Getting close to an overload
Up against a no win situation
Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove
I’m hangin’ up my boxing gloves
I’m ready for a long vacation
[Chorus]
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Oh be good to yourself
You’re walking a high wire, caught in a cross fire
Oh be good to yourself
[Verse 2]
When you can’t give no more
They want it all but you gotta say no
I’m turning off the noise that makes me crazy
Lookin’ back with no regrets
To forgive is to forget
I want a little peace of mind to turn to
[Chorus]
[Outro]
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
